Here’s what happened. Mayor and Librarian are dating. There is another wedding planned at the clubhouse so Librarian is excited to check it out. The Mayor shows up to make sure everything goes OK business wise. He is a realtor and wants to know everything. But when the wedding planner introduces the Mayor to the Bride, he realizes that she is his wife who disappeared 10 years ago. They both disappeared so as not to get captured after some kind of big con job. Bride slips him a note to meet her later that night. Bride does some research on how to fake an accident. Nobody else knows about the meeting, but the Bride needs to bump the Mayor off because she is marrying a rich guy and she doesn’t want anything to happen. Maybe he will expose her, stop the wedding, or at least blackmail her to get some of the money. She kills him in some clever way and it looks like an accident. The Librarian is heart broken but is sure that something is wrong with the accident story. When she investigates, she finds out many new things about her boyfriend. She has a close sister who is now in Japan that she texts whenever she need help and support. She only answers in the evenings. The sister actually is back home and was also in love with the Mayor, and was seeing him lately. The Mail Carrier is full of helpful witticisms but only stops by once a day. Yet is around in the middle of the night for some reason and sees something suspicious. The district manager is always around, except wasn’t on this night. He has some kind of YouTube channel and maybe has something going on with the Mail Carrier. The note is found and it has some clues only a Librarian could figure out. The beach bum sleeps in the park and provides clues but no alibi. The Mayor never liked him hanging around lowering property values. He is actually a rich Silicon Valley tech CEO and supports the Friends of the Library and the new makeover. He also knows the Groom. The Bride is actively trying to squelch the investigation, and we know she is deadly. It gets dangerous for the Librarian. The church organist used to be a con man and knew the Mayor and the Bride in the past. He lives out of town and only shows up on Sunday. The Minister is dismayed at all the money going to the Library and the Clubhouse and is trying to sabotage the clubhouse renovation and it looks like that was the cause of the Mayor’s demise. Also, the danger to the Librarian is related. Aunt Nikki is the only one who remembers details of the clubhouse which helps to narrow down the suspects. She is otherwise an annoyance and gets in the way all the time.

It’s not unusual that the letter carrier is around at night, many now are still delivering well past nightfall. He’s the one that notices the sister is back from Japan when mail is forwarded from Osaka. The beach bum first became homeless when the Mayor and Bride’s Big Con took all his money. He recognized the Mayor months earlier, and set up the marriage location with his pal the groom, knowing this would lead to a deadly reunion between the con artists. The District Manager has been tampering with the Clubhouse infrastructure (the faulty wiring that made the “accidental” electrocution of the Mayor so believable) so money will flood in for the renovation that the DM plans to embezzle. The murder somehow exposes this scheme as the Minister and Organist figure it out and both gain a measure of salvation. Meanwhile, the sister from Osaka (identical twin of the Librarian), completes the plan she and the Mayor had hatched to steal the Library funds by posing as the Librarian at the fundraiser and gets away, this time not leaving a forwarding address.

The District Manager whose name is Sam, had a meeting that night in question with the Music Director/Organist Aaron, the Mayor Jesse, and the Mailman Chewy (he is Asian and his name is Chu). They were rehearsing Barbershop quartet music at the Manager’s cottage next to the clubhouse. they were keeping it a secret as a surprise for the Library fundraiser. But when the Mayor didn’t show up, they didn’t want to sing in a trio and left early. The Groom was going to be donating to the Library and the sister Mel suggested to Belle that he do it in cash in order to make a big show. She also gets Belle to send her the speech she has written for the fundraiser. The sister lures Belle into the storeroom at the clubhouse and locks her in. Aunt Nikki finds her after the money has disappeared. The storeroom used to be the old library. The mail carrier tells her to seek out the story in the margins. The beach bum Larry comes into the library to read Mad Magazine.
The note Belle finds has the numbers 537 643.7 . or 696 Buildings Utilities, or 621.3192 American Electrician’s Handbook.

The Beach Bum tells Belle that she must gather data, but also she must put it together to create information. He tells her about the 6 levels of understanding.

Anyway, this intrigues the Librarian and she uses it to track her findings and she wants to learn more about this Bum. She spends more time with him and hopes he isn’t the killer.

The Bride is hanging around and watching Belle the Librarian so she can squelch the investigation. The combination of her and the sister threatening Belle confuses the investigation, but convinces Belle that there is a murderer. The sister was always jealous of Belle being so smart and good with the boys.
